When To Send Save-the-Dates

A save-the-date is sent earlier than a wedding invitation, and it's typically smaller in size and much briefer–it lets your guests know that they are invited and it includes straightforward information about when the wedding will be. Just as the name indicates, it is literally a way of asking your guests to save the date! As this comes before your, wedding invitations, your save the dates will be your guests’ first glimpse at what your special day will be like so you need to get it right.

For many couples, save-the-dates also serve as a hint of the overall tone and look of the wedding. They can act as an aesthetic foundation for the invites—not to mention all the other wedding stationery, from programs to place cards to menus. If you already know the vibe you're going for, let your save-the-dates announce it loud and clear. If you're still unsure of your overall wedding aesthetic, don't be afraid to experiment and explore (adding a cute couple photo is always a good move).

Knowing when to send them out ensures the best chance that your family and friends will be able to join you on the big day. They're also vital for your guests as invites contain important information like where to book accommodation, whether it's an adults-only event, and what the dress code is - basically everything they need to start planning!

Send out save-the-date cards six to eight months prior to your wedding and the wedding invitations eight weeks before your big day.
